How do I know if Therapy is right for me?

 

Therapy can be helpful for anyone looking to gain insight, process emotions, develop coping strategies, or make meaningful changes in their life. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or want support navigating life’s challenges, therapy may be beneficial.

How can I prepare for my first session?

Our first session is really about getting to know each other and feeling comfortable with the space. You may want to prepare notes before our session to collect your thoughts and any questions you may have. I do not expect you to open up about everything you are experiencing right away. We will go at whatever pace is most comfortable for you.

Will Insurance cover my sessions?

Many extended health benefits cover psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm coverage. I provide receipts for reimbursement after each session.

What can I expect from Therapy?

The decision to seek help is often not an easy one, so my goal is to make this process as easy and comfortable as possible for you. Knowing what to expect can sometimes be helpful. You're taking that first step, and here is what to anticipate going forward.

​- A response to your request for an appointment within 2 business days

-Options for an appointment for an initial session based on your schedule

-An assessment of your history, problems, and goals (usually completed within the first 1-2 sessions)

-Regular sessions at intervals that are comfortable for you

-A judgment-free environment in which you can feel safe to express yourself

-A collaborative relationship in which we will work together to achieve your goals

Is my information shared?

 

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy, and I take your privacy very seriously. As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I adhere to the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) guidelines to ensure that your personal information remains secure and confidential.

What is confidentiality?

 

Everything you share in therapy is kept confidential, meaning it will not be disclosed without your informed, written consent. This means that your personal details, session notes, and any identifying information will not be shared with anyone, including family members, employers, or other professionals, unless you give explicit permission.

There are a few legal and ethical exceptions where I am required to break confidentiality. Should I have any concerns, I will ensure that I am clear with you about my obligations,

  • Risk of harm to self or others: If I am concerned over the imminent risk of serious harm to you or someone else, I am required to take the appropriate steps to ensure safety.

  • Child safety concerns: If there is a reason to suspect that a child is experiencing or is at risk of abuse or neglect, I am required to report this to the appropriate authorities.

  • Court order/subpoena: If I recieve a court order/subpoena, I may be legally required to share specific records.

  • Regulatory obligations: As a member of the CRPO, I may be required to disclose any information if requested as part of a professional audit or investigation.
